Hi Adrienne, Beautiful story and great photos.I love that there is a bird that calls up this beautiful bloom. I was at Agriculture day March 22 2025.I had a chance to talk with Matthew Roy and Linda Best and forwarded your name to each of them. Cheers Susan
Hi Adrienne, I don't know if you've read UnEarthing by Kyo Maclear, but she uses those seasonal divisions in her fascinating book. She also has major plant themes in it among other subjects. I think those seasons are also referenced in haiku and I think I read somewhere that because of climate change the association between the calendar and seasonal markers is shifting.
Oh, yes. I read that book last year but forgot that detail. You sent me to the bookshelf to find it, so thanks for the reminder, Raymond. It's such a fabulous book, both the content and the writing style. (I made a lot of marginalia.) I've added it to my re-read pile.
Love this….“— a bird conjuring a berry into being with its song.”

Thanks, Susan. And, yes, I love that image of the bird-berry connection. It's nice to imagine a system outside our human one.
